The play Black Diamonds and Pearls is a brilliantly woven tapestry of monologues, poems, music and dance, that stitches together an uplifting and sometimes haunting journey reflecting on the occurrences in the lives of African-American boys/men. Written to remind black boys/men of the power they possess within simply because they were created in the image of God, the production explores such topics as, the residual effects of slavery, relationships, self-empowerment and self-love and community.

Passion Fashion is a Houte Couture event that showcases national fashion designers as well as local designers. It’s main focus to create an experience where individuals can come and have a pleasurable encounter, while enjoying the unique fashions that are presented on the catwalk. Passion Fashion 09”, produced by Visionary Minds, is serving to gradually integrate the nation’s second largest financial center into a new business, the fashion industry.

This monumental annual event kicks off in Charlotte, NC on August 6, 2009. Project Runway’s 2008 “Finalist and Fan Favorite” Korto Momolu will be the feature fashion designer. Korto Momolu, a native of Liberia, West Africa, is heavily influenced by her African roots and expertly infuses tribal details into her eclectic designs. Inspired by the rich fabrics and textures that have become her signature, Korto asserts that her designs are intended for “real and sophisticated” women of all shapes and sizes. This style veteran stands out easily from the rest and has captured the attention of many VIP’s in the fashion industry. According to her fans, who already view her as a remarkable designer, Korto Momolu is more than ready to establish herself as a fashion icon and industry staple. Ms. Momolu will be showcasing her fall 2009 collection at this special affair and a sneak peek of what’s to come for 2010.

Joining Ms. Momolu at this year’s signature event is Cate Lyon and Charlotte’s own Tara Davis. Cate Lyon of Cate Lyon Studio specializes in haute couture, special occasion gowns and ready to wear.
